About the SGS INSTITUT FRESENIUS quality seal
Here we have compiled questions on the subject of our quality seal that we have often been asked.
What is the SGS INSTITUT FRESENIUS quality seal?
Our seal of quality is only awarded if all test criteria are permanently fulfilled: for best quality, high safety, taste and sensory properties and flawless packaging.
Our requirements are strict, so we can justifiably claim that the SGS INSTITUT FRESENIUS quality seal is one of the most demanding seals in Germany at present.
For the manufacturer, this means that the awarding of our quality seal can be an effortful process. It takes work, and it requires precise explanation and presentation of the product, raw materials, suppliers, and packaging components. Even after the seal is awarded, further inspections take place in all relevant areas.
There is at least one annual inspection of the production facilities. In addition, depending on the product, regular raw material and product examinations, undercover sample purchases, sensory tests and product comparison tests are carried out.
For the international market, manufacturers can choose to use the English version of the seal.
What is the difference between this and the use of the name?
While in the inspection program of the quality seal we inspect the entire supply chain of the product, in the case of name use the focus is clearly on the product. In addition to regular inspections of the end product, this also includes regular declaration checks.
In addition to the quality seal, we thus offer manufacturers an alternative framework for independent product testing, as well as wide-ranging advertising opportunities for a specific quality criterion of their product.
Who awards the quality seal?
The seal is awarded by SGS INSTITUT FRESENIUS. The company is part of the SGS Group, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company. We are recognized as the global benchmark for quality and integrity. Our 93,000 employees operate a network of 2,600 offices and laboratories working together to enable a better, safer and more connected world.
The quality seal has been awarded since 1973. Our institute has been one of the leading providers of non-medical laboratory analysis and quality testing in Europe for more than 160 years.
SGS INSTITUT FRESENIUS awards the quality seal according to strict requirements in an independent, holistic and neutral testing procedure.
Which products and services does SGS INSTITUT FRESENIUS test as part of the use of the name?
We primarily test packaged end products in the food industry, for example, sausage and meat products, cheese, pasta, fruit, vegetables, frozen foods, ice cream, water, beverages containing fruit juice, soft drinks, confectionery, dairy products, finished products, canned foods, baked goods, beverages, food supplements.
Food-related products and hygiene standards in the catering and hospitality industry can also be tested within the name usage program.
Can the quality seal for a product also be withdrawn?
Yes, this is possible. We test the products we seal at intervals appropriate to the product.
If deviations are found and the high quality requirements are no longer met, the seal is also consistently withdrawn.
This ensures that consumers can always be sure that they are getting a genuine quality product when the quality seal is printed on it.
Who controls the SGS INSTITUT FRESENIUS?
Test methods, procedures, processes, standards and the laboratories of the entire SGS Group are regularly checked by independent bodies.
Above all, the DAkkS (German Accreditation Body) is to be mentioned here.
Further approvals are granted by the responsible authorities by providing evidence of the relevant qualification.
